Day Trip to Washington D.C.
This past Friday, we had the AMAzing opportunity to visit Washington D.C. for the day. In addition to 20 of our members, marketing professor Dr. Bergman, Ms. SK Parker from Career Services, and Ms. Shelley Burns, Director of Career Programs from the business school, came along on the trip.
Leaving Richmond at 7:00am, we first headed to D.C. United, a professional soccer team in D.C. We met with Luke Mohamed, Senior Director of Corporate Partnerships, and Alex Carter, Account Executive of Partnership Marketing, who gave us a tour of the stadium while they informed us about their professional backgrounds and the organization's marketing strategies such as its switch from beer cups to beer cans to speed up the process and optimize profit. They ended the tour at Heineken's event space where we held an interactive Q&A session.
After DC United, we stopped at Five Guys for lunch before heading to FP1 Strategies, a public affairs agency for political campaigns. We met with UR alum Hunter Ross along with his colleagues who gave us a presentation on what the agency does and the projects they have worked on in the past. We got a tour of the office as well as their rooftop where you can see a 360 view of D.C.
Our last stop was the Washington Post. We also got to go on their rooftop and tour some parts of the office, such as their food lab where they test out recipes all day. UR alum Jacquelyn Cameron, who is the VP of Client Solutions, gave us a presentation on some important marketing insights that her team focuses on like the readers' scroll speed, concluding with a Q&A session with our members.
It was an informative day, and we are thankful we had opportunity to visit various companies, network with our alums, and learn about different sectors of marketing. Thank you Dr. Bergman, SK, and Ms. Burns for coming along on the trip!
