Instagram Introduces IGTV


If you've updated your Instagram recently, you would have noticed a colorful TV icon on the top right corner of your screen. This is Instagram's newest feature, IGTV− a standalone video app that lets users upload vertical videos up to an hour long, either on the app or the website.

The social media giant, which currently has 1 billion monthly active users, directly competes with YouTube, now that influencers can create content for their Instagram followers without building out a YouTube channel and audience. While Instagram has yet to announce how it will monetize the section, IGTV allows users to link websites, creating additional revenue and partnership opportunities for brands and influencers.

“I would imagine this opens up a lot more brand dollars in terms of product,” commented Ryan Detert, CEO and founder of Influential, an influencer platform. “Instead of being a purely branded video, you’ll have a 30-minute video or more, you’d be doing that and integrating brands you love into your content.”
